The information on this site
is the product of 15+ years of my life. It as been a labor of love and will
stand as a history of my family that I am proud to display for all to read
and enjoy for years to come.
This all started with my mother Eva Mae Skees, Yates, Brown. She was
given a handful of documents from what remained of all of her brother and
sisters' families. She asked me if I would go thru these documents and make
some since out of it. The rest became an obsession and passion that has
culminated into this series of documents. The only regret I have is that mom
never got to see all of the data that I have collected over the years,
although, I did give her a preliminary set of data about 9 years ago. I don't
take full credit for all the information contained on this web site. It is a
gathering of information from many sources. All sources for this information
has been listed and includes information found on the Internet. Note: Any
documents related to these sources must be requested from those sources, as
the author does not have them in his possession. Click on the Family links at
the top or the left side of the page to view other family trees. If you see a
camera Icon next to a name then just click on it and you will see a related
picture. Please Enjoy!

Take a look at
the very center of this picture and you will see a rectangle with a dirt road
running thru it. This is part of the old Yates farm in Rineyville Kentucky.
The house once stood within this rectangle. This picture was taken via
satellite only few years ago. Look at all the development around it now!

We now have streaming videos for you to
watch!
Sometime
in the early 90’s our Yates cousins (Sonny Yates and his sister Audrey) from
Cincinnati came to Louisville to visit with my mom Eva Yates Skees Brown and
family. They brought with them some old 8mm movies and a projector. What was
on those movie reels was a real treasure. The movies take place during a
visit sometime around 1953 to Rineyville Kentucky to the Old Yates Farm in
which Albert Yates (Sonny’s Dad) and his wife and children were all present.
This movie was video taped onto vhs tape using a video camera on a tripod.
The voices you hear are the people that were watching the movies and
describing (with astonishment) what they are seeing. The voices you will here
will be of the following people: Eva Yates Skees Brown, Sonny Yates, Audrey
Yates, Alice Wall Yates, Jerry Yates, Ann Yates, Ronnie Yates, Donnie Yates,
Eileen Yates, and a few others I can’t remember. The vdeos were too big to
upload as one file so I split it in two pieces. To watch the streaming videos
click on the play button in the either of the two boxes below. It might take a minute or to for it
to load. Please enjoy and let me know what you think. It may be useless to
try this if you don’t have a broadband connection. Sorry!

As
most of you may know, the Yates clan in which I am related to, made their
name on a little farm in Rineyville Kentucky. The following is a short
history of the town you might be interested to know about.
Rineyville,
Kentucky
Rineyville is situated on the Illinois
Central Railroad in the north central section of Hardin County, a distance of
approximately six miles northwest of Elizabethtown.
Rineyville received its name from the
Riney family who gave land for the railroad, which was built in 1874. It was
known as Riney station although only "Riney" appeared on the
station sign. When the Post Office was established the "ville" was
added and since that time the name has been Rineyville.
Blue Ball Hill, highest elevation in
Hardin County, rises 1,017 feet above sea level, a few miles west of
Rineyville and dominates the valleys surrounding it. Blue Ball is one of the
oldest names in Hardin County and has been a landmark for location of
property since land was first recorded in this county.
Dr. John Wesley Pawley and his family
were the first settlers in Rineyville. Pawley was born in London, Middlesex,
England about 1743 and as a young man he became very sympathetic with the
Americans who had begun their struggle for independence. He was smuggled
abroad a ship bound for the new world and landed at Pawley's Island on the
coast of South Carolina. He fought in the Revolutionary War under General
Francis Marion, famed "Swamp Fox" of the American forces. For his service
in the war Dr. John Wesley Pawley was given a land grant that he took up in
this part of Hardin County, not long after the end of the war. In addition he
purchased several hundred acres so that in the beginning he owned 3,000 acres
of land extending from the present Helmwood area in Elizabethtown to Moormans
Valley beyond Blue Ball Hill. Many Pawley descendents still live in and near
Rineyville. He Died April 1837, Rineyville, Hardin Ky. Some other families
from early Rineyville with descendent still in the area are Nall, Smith,
Raine, Osborne, Yates and Woodring.
We are now over 7000 individuals!!!!

be fun to look at.
