SECOND GENERATION

2. William Caldwell Blain was born on 15 Sep 1794 in Abbeville, S.C.. He died in 1874 in Falls of Rough, Grayson Co., Ky.

William is said to have served in the war of 1812 and ran into his father James Blain by accident who had also enlisted. He was a private in the company commanded by Robert E. Yates in the tenth regement of Kentucky mounted volunteer militia commanded by Col. Barbour under the command of Isac Shelby Govenor of te state of Kentucky on expedition to upper Canada in the second war with Great Britain. He volunteered in Grayson County Ky. Aug 20 1813. He served for a term of three months. He was honorably dicharged.

William and Sarah's children were all born in a log cabin which stood behind the present house of John Blain.
Another story reported that the old log cabin found in the Falls of Rough State Park once belonged to William Blain. The old post office was located a half mile from the farm.

The home place was inherited by John and Franklin Blain and passed to their sons. According to Charlie Herndon Blain, A great grandson. He has the original deed. of WM. C. Blain.

He was married to Sarah Chapman Herndon [Aunt Sallie] (daughter of Travis Herndon and Nancy Nash Eskridge) on 28 Jan 1830. Sarah Chapman Herndon [Aunt Sallie] was born on 28 Jan 1811 in VA. She died in 1892 in Falls of Rough, Grayson Co., Ky.

Sarah's Gr. Gr. Grand Father, Col George Eskridge, reared George Washington mother, Mary Ball, and she named her son after him.

There is said to be an old meat house still standing at the old Eskridge plantation in Sandy Point Virginia. A monument erected at the site tells about it. William Caldwell Blain and Sarah Chapman Herndon [Aunt Sallie] had the following children:

12 iv. Rufus Lintherum Blain⁽¹⁾ was born on 9 Jun 1836 in Ky. He died on 30 Aug 1857 in Ky.

15 vii. Virgil Caldwell Blain⁽¹⁾ was born on 11 Aug 1844 in Ky. He died on 29 Oct 1916 in Ky.
16 viii. Anderson Lewis Blain⁽¹⁾ was born on 12 Oct 1847 in Ky. He died on 6 Jan 1896 in Ky.

18 x. Hunley Alexander Blain⁽¹⁾ was born on 15 Sep 1853 in Ky. He died on 15 Oct 1853 in Ky. HE DIED AN INFANT.
