SIXTH GENERATION64. Sarah Chapman Herndon [Aunt Sallie] was born on 28 Jan 1811 in VA. She died in 1892 in Falls of Rough, Grayson Co., Ky. Sarah's great grandfather Col. George Eskridge Sr., reared George Washington’s mother, Mary Ball, and she named her son after him. There is said to be an old meat house still standing at the old George Eskridge plantation. A monument erected at the site tells about it. She was married to William Caldwell Blain (son of James Blain) on 28 Jan 1830. William Caldwell Blain was born on 15 Sep 1794 in Abbeville, S.C. He died in 1874 in Falls of Rough, Grayson Co., Ky. William is said to have served in the war of 1812 and ran into his father James Blain by accident, whom had also enlisted. He was a private in the company commanded by Robert E. Yates in the Regiment of Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia commanded by Col. Barbour under the command of Isaac Shelby, Governor of Kentucky on expedition to upper Canada in the second war with Great Britain. He volunteered in Grayson County Ky., Aug. 20 1813.
