SECOND GENERATION

5. Robert Eskridge (2) was born in 1712 in Sandy Point, Westmoreland Co., Va. He died on 16 Jul 1747 at sea near the coast of Guinea, Africa.

Author's note:

Robert met an unhappy fate. A will on record there says that he left a small estate to his wife and young daughter, after his death in the 1740s, which apparently occurred at sea while he was serving as ship's doctor aboard a slave ship. Not the most lucrative, or desired work. I believe the will mentioned that he might have been killed in a fire aboard the ship.

NOTES FROM FAMILY TREE MAKER WEB SITE.

Returned to England for his education where he studied medicine. Moved back to VA after his marriage and lived at Wilton in Westmoreland Co. Returned to England in 1738 where he lived in Whitehaven then in Workington. All of his children died except possible son named Clement. Note: This must be folklore as his will on record in Whitehaven says he left he left a small estate to his wife and young daughter [?], after his death in the 1740's, which apparently occurred at sea while he was serving as ship's doctor [surgeon] aboard a Guinea slave ship, "Duke of Queensborough", out of Bristol England.
